Ethiopia has come a long way from when coffee was first discovered here. Quality, production and the introduction of the Ethiopia coffee exchange (ECX) a governing body controlling the trading of coffee. However, it remains a complex country and coffee identification is also complex, generally determined by regions, zones or mills. Yirgacheffee lies within the Southern Nations, and is the most well-known coffee growing region of the world. Yirgacheffe coffees are known as ‘garden coffees’ as they are grown by thousands of farmers, in small-lot backyard farms across the region. This coffee is from the Gedeo Zone, and processed through the Aricha mill.
