Traditionally within the coffee industry coffees produced in Yirgacheffe Ethiopia struggle with traceability. The farming process here sees that local farmers all produce coffee in small backyard plots, which are then sold together as combined lots from their region, this method is often referred to as ‘garden coffee’. However, of late the push to trace coffees to specific farms, towns, and washing stations is becoming successful due to the introduction of the ECX (Ethiopian Coffee Exchange).

And in addition to that a growing trend of labelling coffees with colour names that represent their flavour profiles are used to assist traders and roasters to identify different lots.
